Do you know someone who is expecting? Then, you will want to figure out a way to plan the best and most creative and enjoyable baby shower. Here are some tips and suggestions to get the party started.
If you know someone who is about to welcome a bundle of joy into the world, then you will most likely want to throw them a wonderful and memorable celebration. Usually baby showers are thrown at about the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy, and whether or not you know if it is a boy or a girl, you can throw a wonderful party with many different themes and styles.
If you already know the gender of the child, then it will be easy to choose a color scheme. A traditional pink for girls or blue for boys, but if the parents are keeping it a surprise, then it is best to choose something neutral, like pale green or yellow. Do not mix pink and blue, as that is confusing and sends mixed signals, instead choose something neutral. You can even choose lavender or the color that is most preferred by the mother of the baby, as well.
The first thing you have to decide is whether it will be an all encompassing party for the mother and the father or if it will just be for the mother and her female friends and relatives. Once you determine that, it will be easier to plan and you can also decide if you want it to be a surprise for the mother or if you want her to know about it in advance. This will all depend on the mother's preference, some people hate surprises while others are touched by them. So, knowing the mother, you will be able to make the call. Next, decide if it will be casual and fun, where you can serve finger food and sodas or if it will be a sit down formal event with a full course meal and elegant attire.
There are many games you can play at a baby shower that can really make it a fun and enjoyable experience for all people involved. One game is Guess Mommy's Tummy, a game where everyone rips off a piece of toilet paper that they think will be long enough to wrap around the expectant mother's stomach. Then, everyone takes turn measuring their strip with her stomach and the person who is closest will win a prize.
Another great game is Taste the Diaper. You take many diapers and on each, put a sample of jar food on it. Then, the guests, all blindfolded, take a taste of the food and then the person who can guess correctly the most flavors of baby food wins the prize. These games work well if you have a relatively small crowd of close friends and family and if you are not planning to have a very formal event.
You want to make sure that the gifts that the expectant mother receives are coordinated with some sort of organization. You can do this by pooling together and getting gifts that are given by the group, or you can have her make out a wish list that you then assign to various people. Basically, you want to make sure that the basics are covered, like the crib and basinets and carriers and that no one gets repeat gifts or leaves anything out.
